Africa House

Client: Freshwater Group of Companies

Principal Contractor: BAM

Architect: JMA

Package Value: £1.2M

The interior package on this historic building comprised a mix of new build and restoration. Moleanos limestone from Portugal was used for the lift lobbies and the lifts themselves. White Italian Carrara Bianca was used for parts of the magnificent reception area flooring, columns and walls, with the back wall behind the reception desk incorporating 30mm partially load bearing pieces. The front section of the reception area flooring was restored using several different types of marble and black granite.

The circular pattern of flooring in the middle of the reception area had grey Bardiglio vein cut marble replaced, along with two meters of a rich yellow marble and bands of mosaic in Carrara Tesserea. Impala black banding was installed on the walls to replace the original damaged pieces. Szerelmey laid new flooring to the rear of the reception area, and restored and repaired the interior walls and columns using a selection of semi-precious materials.
