41 Lothbury
Spring 2005 An extensive package of works has recently been completed at 41 Lothbury, a 1930s Grade II listed building. The site is located just a stone’s throw from the Bank of England.

Szerelmey secured this prestigious project from Wates Construction for their client 41 Lothbury Ltd, a joint venture between Grosvenor and Royal Bank of Scotland. The project, designed by GMW Architects, included the installation of new stonework, all necessary insulation, damp proofing, support steel work, fixtures and fittings. Adaptations to existing stonework, stonework cleaning and repairs were also undertaken.

Szerelmey have been responsible for the detailing, sourcing, supply and fixing of the Whitbed Portland Stone and granite plinths to be used throughout the project. The new stonework elements comprised of two main areas of work: cladding to two new staircases where the ashlar stonework was secured to a steel structure with blockwork infill walls and the temporary removal of sections of traditional walling and embellishments, which were catalogued, detailed, reworked and re-installed in new areas.

All areas of new work including cladding required throughout the project were detailed and carefully worked to replicate the detailing and ornamentation of the original stonework.

These works have been designed to extend the integrity of the existing fabric to give a design life of fifty years minimum and to ensure that no major repairs will be necessary within a period of thirty years, including repointing.
