Szerelmey as principal contractor have recently completed the
external refurbishment of a Cadogan Estates property in Pont Street SW1
under the direction of surveyors Malcolm Hollis.
The works
undertaken incorporated sensitive cleaning and restoration of the
existing brickwork and stonework, After cleaning Szerelmey inspected
repointing, slate roof repairs, asphalt works, replacement and
refurbishment of cast iron rainwater goods, leadworks and complete
external redecoration.
The balconies to the Pont street elevation
had been leaking for a number of years which had caused extensive
degradation to the Stonework and brickwork beneath. the condition of the
Stonework to the balconies and discovered that in addition to the decay
resulting from continued saturation the balconies had also been
previously repaired. The balconies were initially made watertight by
asphalting the surface to the correct falls. The decayed areas of
stonework were cut back, reinforced and repaired using Szerelmey
synthetic stone compounds and finally redecorated in a Keim mineral
paint to match the appearance of the adjoining properties.
The
affected areas of moulded brickwork sheltered by the balconies were also
cut back and restored insitu to match the existing brickwork in both
colour and texture. Severely spalled areas of brickwork to exposed areas
were carefully cut out and replaced with matching bricks.
