Szerelmey are currently undertaking the second phase of floor restoration works to the internal galleries within the V&A Museum. This project has followed Szerelmey's recent works forming the external steps previously featured within the Winter 2001 edition of Finesse (see project featured in 'Hard Landscaping section').
The final specification for these floor restoration works was formulated following a number of cleaning trials. These floors have been overlaid with sheet linoleum; this is now being removed to reveal the beauty of the original tiling concealed beneath. All works are being executed outside of normal working hours to minimize inconvenience to the Museum.
Each area of work is agreed on a daily basis following consultation with the museum and cordoned off prior to commencement. After removal of the linoleum sheet flooring the majority of the screed and adhesive is removed using hand held tools, complete removal of the residue that remains after this operation is being achieved using a number of careful applications of dilute chemicals solutions.
For health and safety reasons, only the quantity of chemical required for each operation was decanted from a secured area outside of the museum.
