DRAKE CIRCUS SHOPPING CENTRE

Szerelmey GB Ltd are in the final stages of completing a £2.25 million stone cladding and flooring contract on a new shopping centre in Plymouth, alongside Bovis Lend Lease Ltd for P&O Developments. Drake Circus Retail Development, located in the centre of Plymouth, is due to be open to the general public in October 2006, and will become one of the leading shopping destinations in the South West.

Szerelmey are responsible for two stonework packages; a £1.05 million external cladding contract which consists of 2,200 square metres of rainscreen Jura limestone from Germany to 6 elevations, and a £1.2 million internal flooring contract covering 5,400 square metres over 3 storeys using a spectrum of coloured granites sourced from Xiamen in China. Szerelmey controlled the stone selection in China with a factory visit accompanied by P&O Developments, Chapman Taylor and Bovis Lend Lease. Two further quality control visits were made by Szerelmey during the production stage to ensure the required quality was being achieved.  This quality control is critical as replacement material could take 12 weeks to get to site.  Getting it right first time was the only option.

Close relationships developed with suppliers from China to Germany has resulted in superb quality of the final product, which, when coupled with professional site management, is producing an outstanding contract.
