Szerelmey carried out an extensive package of restoration, conservation and new build works to Lion Plaza on Threadneedle Street and Broad Street. Lion Plaza is comprised of 11 adjoining buildings and occupies a corner plot with two long facades and one short one. Eight of the buildings are Grade II listed and one is Grade II* listed. Szerelmey were responsible for carefully cleaning and restoring all the Portland stonework, including extensive restoration work such as indenting and traditional masonry repairs undertaken by our masons, to the carved detailing including the Corinthian capitals. This also included leadwork to the cornices and copings.

At the time of our work, Lion Plaza was the largest retained facade project in Europe. Two new storeys were added using over 500m3 of Portland stone and matching the existing stonework in intricacy and carved detail. Due to the various facades being constructed at different times, Szerelmey sourced the Portland stone from different quarries to ensure the closest match with the existing.
