This project involves the delivery of a bespoke jade green faience facade to form part of the boutique Soho Hotel owned by Firmdale Hotels. The existing building (9-11) was demolished and the site redeveloped to form a new six storey building with lower basement providing offices and accommodation. Szerelmey undertook the design and installation of the SFS system and full wall build up, the large faience units and the granite plinth in Zimbabwee Black with a flamed finish. The faience pieces have all been modelled in 3D and are hollow pot construction filled with lightweight aggregate. This is to produce a flat surface on which to place cavity barriers. Filled hollow pot faience is a traditional method that is seen on many underground station construction although historically the pots were filled to strengthen them, as part of self-load bearing facades. On this Richmond Building facade some of the hollow pots were filled with concrete with cast metal elements to allow the units to be fixed back to the structural slab.
The large faience units were fixed from ground to level four with a total of 225 units and form a striking surround to the large windows.
