This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and this year the theme is Connecting with Nature. It has been shown that being outside in the natural environment is good for you and can help with easing stress and tension. At Szerelmey we are big fans of this! 4 in 10 people said in a survey that being outside made them feel less worried or anxious and over half of UK adults said that being close to nature improved their mental health. Of course, it helps when the sun is shining! We have asked our team to take selfies this week when they are outside during their breaks enjoying the fresh air. Exercise too can be a great help in alleviating stress and can make you feel better about yourself, which can only be good. Szerelmey is a huge supporter of the work Mates in Mind, the construction industry mental health charity, carries out. We have raised money for this lovely charity in the past and are affiliated with them. We have 11 trained Mental health first aiders who are based in our offices and on-site to provide support for anyone who might need it.

There are many different mental health charities and websites that can provide help and support. A great one is mentalhealth.org.uk, which is well worth a visit. They have posted lots of suggestions for activities throughout the week to get you out and about including going out for walks, organizing a breakfast or tea break event, Mental Health Awareness quiz, hosting outdoor/park lunch, etc. These can be a great conversation starter about mental health in the workplace. To promote wellbeing, Szerelmey has recently launched a summer fitness competition which also supports the theme of getting out into nature.

So make the most of the sunshine while it lasts and get outside to enjoy some nature!
